Christina Lee McGonigle passed away on June 28, 2019 in Salt Lake City, UT. Chris was born in Butte to Dan and Lucille (Jennings) McGonigle on January 26, 1943. She was raised on East Woolman Street, attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Girls’ Central High School graduating in 1960. She earned a nursing degree from Carroll College in 1963. After nursing for a short time in Denver, Chris became a “stewardess” for Western Airlines. Her “flight attendant” career lasted over 30 years, flying for Western and Delta Air.
A competitive speed-skater, pianist, skier, and avid baseball fan, she loved the Mariners.
Although she visited most states in the US and several countries in Europe, Asia and Australia, her favorite flight was to Washington, DC. She lived in Denver, LA, Seattle and Salt Lake City.
Preceding her in death were her father, Dan; her mother, Lucille; her sister, Sandy Heffelfinger; and her cousin, George “Buddy” McGonigle.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Howard “Skip” Heffelfinger of Helena; two nephews, Ryan Heffelfinger of Helena and Kerry Heffelfinger (Marie) of Missoula. Additionally, Chris had close and caring first cousins — The Robert Brown family: Carole, Terry, Roberta and Brian — The Moriarity Family: Ed, Mary Kay, Bill and Dan — The McGonigle Family: Michael and Jim.
Among her many friends were Ellen Kearns, Brenda Richards, June and Joel Barry, and Betty Salamanikas.
Vigil will be Friday, August 16, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Butte, followed by an 11:00 Mass. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery will immediately follow.
Chris can be remembered by donations in her honor to Butte Central School Foundation.
