March 3, 1939-Nov. 26, 2018
Charlotte passed away Monday, Nov. 26, after spending the weekend in comfort care at St. James Hospital in Butte. She had been battling renal failure with dialysis for over 10 years. She spent her final days surrounded by family.
Charlotte was born March 3, 1939 to James and Milena Keenan. She was raised in Anaconda with her three younger brothers. Charlotte attended St. Pete’s Elementary and graduated from Anaconda Central in the Class of ‘57. She returned to school at 53 to become a registered dietitian.
Charlotte was born “Charlene”, but changed her name when she married Otto Mulske in 1956. Together they had six children: twin boys who did not survive birth, Carol Ann who passed at the tender age of 6, Laurel Lee (Tom) Curran – Deer Lodge, Pamela (Patrick) Nicholes - Anaconda, and Robert Mulske - Anaconda.
Charlotte loved kids and being involved with them. She enjoyed being a part of their activities. She spent time as a Sunday school teacher, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and a Cub Scout leader. She had even invited foster care children into her home. She was mom to all of the kids fortunate enough to know her, even over a couple generations of kids.
Cooking was a part of her. It wasn’t a hobby, it went much deeper than that. She would cook for the children in the neighborhood while they would play in the back yard and climb on the crab apple tree. She cooked at several different places: the last cook at the Marcus Daly Hotel before its closure, Reno Supper Club, and Huggy Bears, before she found her stay as a cook at Warm Springs State Hospital.
Charlotte had a small business as a seamstress working from home. She made several wedding gowns for family and countless others for her customers. She had also made the uniforms for the Anaconda High School Drill team.
Charlotte counted her blessings in the form of grandkids and great grandkids. She had five grandkids: Tamara (Marty) Mavrinac, Libby Nicholes, Rikki (Jason Harris) Nicholes, Melissa (Matt Leskovar) Mulske, and Milena (Corey Pepper) Mulske. Her great-grandkids were her pride and joy: Tristin (Tamara), Jacob (Libby), Christian (Rikki), Alysha (Milena), Kyler (Milena), and Owen (Milena).
Charlotte is survived by her three brothers and brother in law: James (Kim) Keenan - Tacoma, Terry (Michele) Keenan - Puyallup, Leo (Julie) Keenan, Adolph Mulske - Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, James Keenan, and parents Milena and Lyle Fowler.
Charlotte lived her last few years with Robert and Pam acting as personal caregivers. Charlotte knew she was loved and everyone knew that Charlotte loved them. A private family burial of ashes and celebration of life will be held in the spring/summer.
