Charles W. Colwell at the age of 89, born March 5, 1931, to Richard and Edna (Carlisle) Colwell in Williston, North Dakota, passed away July 25, 2020, at the Community Hospital of Anaconda.
Charles moved to Montana from North Dakota with his family to Southern Cross and then later to Opportunity. Charles graduated from the Anaconda Senior High School in 1949 and served in the US Army for 22 months, from the spring of 1951 until early 1953. Upon high school graduation, Charles went to work for the Anaconda Company, initially working in the Zinc Tank House and finished his career with the Anaconda Company when he retired in 1980, working as a heavy equipment operator.
Charles’ interests included tending his horse and mules, hunting, spending time on his 4-wheeler in the mountains and he very much enjoyed haying season in Opportunity. Charles was also a volunteer fireman with the Opportunity Volunteer Fire Department.
Charles is survived by his brothers, Duane (Shirley) Colwell of Opportunity, and Clifford (Carole) Colwell of Florence, MT; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Edna Colwell; his brother, Robert Colwell; and his sister, Joyce Colwell Colucci.
The family would like to thank the many friends, family, nurses, doctors and health caretakers who contributed to Charlie’s care over the recent months.
