Butte native Brother Benjamin Lawrence Favero passed away on Feb. 6, 2018, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He was a member of the faculty of Brother Rice High School. Brother Ben was born on Aug. 1, 1938, to Aldo and Mary (Bracco) Favero. He attended Holy Savior Grade School and graduated from Boys Central High School in 1956. Upon graduation he entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers of Ireland at West Park, New York. In 1960 he graduated from Iona College with a degree in mathematics. In 1966 he received his master’s degree from Gonzaga University.
Upon graduation from Iona College he was assigned to St. Louis College in Victoria, British Columbia, where he taught math and science for five years. He was then assigned to Boys Central in Butte for the next four years where he taught math and coached the tennis team. He had subsequent teaching assignments at Brother Rice High School, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, Cantwell High School, Montebello, California, where he served as principal and Palma High School, Salinas, California. In 1998 he was re-assigned to Brother Rice where he taught and tutored mathematics. In 2015 he was inducted into the Brother Rice Hall of Fame.
Brother Ben was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his brother, Tony (Kathy) Favero of Florence, Montana.
