The NorthWestern Energy Building

The NorthWestern Energy building at Park and Main in Uptown Butte.

NorthWestern Energy has been named grand marshal of Uptown Butte’s 2019 Christmas Stroll, which will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

Representatives of the company will help turn on the lights during the tree-lighting ceremony at the Butte-Silver Bow Courthouse rotunda and lead the Children's Light Parade.

Modern-day NorthWestern Energy can trace its roots to the Montana Power, which was established by John Ryan in Butte in 1912. The company now has over 600 employees in the Butte area and almost 300 employees working in Uptown Butte, 220 of those in its general office at 11 E. Park St.

The building has quickly become a much-valued community facility, hosting nonprofits and community organizations to use the first-floor conference rooms, equipped with the latest technology, for conferences, seminars, meetings and presentations.

During the Christmas Stroll, the conference rooms and lobby will be packed again with holiday activities and a variety of area talent performing holiday music.

NorthWestern employees are generous contributors to their community.  NorthWestern Energy sponsors numerous sports events, Uptown Art Walks, Music on Main events, lineman rodeos, and is a major sponsor of the Montana Folk Festival, an event they have supported financially and through volunteers since it began as the National Folk Festival in 2008.
