Hennessy Market announces closure

This sign was posted on the doors of Hennessy Market on Saturday, signaling a current closure of a grocery store that opened Uptown almost a decade ago.

A sign posted on the doors of Hennessy Market on Saturday announced the Uptown grocery store's closure, at least for now.

According to the sign, the market "will be closed until further notice." The unsigned note also said, "We hope to see you again soon."

No one answered the store's main phone number on Saturday, and a call to the building's owner was not immediately returned. Efforts to reach the store's owner were also not immediately successful.

When Hennessy Market opened in late 2010 on the ground floor of the Sears Building, 32-40 E. Granite St., it was heralded for bringing a grocery store back to Uptown, which had reportedly been without once since the closure of Smith's in 2000.
