DEER LODGE — The eighth annual Deer Lodge Community Garden’s Tour and Party featuring local yards and gardens will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21.
Visitors can pick up a tour book with map and details from 2 to 4 at the Community Garden, 519 Higgins, in Jaycee Park. The tour is free, but donations are welcome. The Community Garden will be open at noon, and from this starting point of the tour you will see a variety of flowers and produce growing in the greenhouse and garden plots.
Five other stunning gardens and yards on the tour are those of Laura and Gary Swant, Rand Bacon, the Veranda at Territorial Antiques, Sharon Van Elsberg, and Kathy Bair. Throughout the tour visitors will see large yards, small yards, and outdoor garden rooms that are a gardener’s paradise. You may get some great ideas or learn tips from the hosts about landscaping, garden art, growing vegetables, herbs and flowers.
To add to the fun, there will be a scavenger hunt. Organizers have taken photos of a specific item in each yard or garden; those who find all of the items and identify their location on the scavenger hunt flyer will be eligible to win prizes.
The tour concludes with a garden party at Circle H Growers, 604 Mitchell St., featuring hors d’oeuvres, beverages and good conversation. Door prizes will awarded at 5 p.m. using the completed scavenger hunt forms.
