DEER LODGE -- The Powell County Community Foundation recently awarded $13,195 in grants to 14 organizations.
Grants ranged from $3,000 to the Deer Lodge Food Pantry to $358 for Powell County Ambulance for a transfer device that stabilizes the spine.
Grants will help underwrite the Missoula Children’s Theatre performance at the Ovando School, help with a kitchen to the Elliston School gym and provide scene lighting for the newest Garrison Volunteer Fire Department vehicle.
Other grant recipients are Kohrs Memorial Library, Powell County Senior Center, Toys for Tots, PAWHS, Powell County High Close-Up, Powell County Museum and Arts, Deer Lodge Preservation, Inc., Rising Star Academy and the Powell County High School golf team.
Since it was established in 1999, the foundation has awarded more than $145,000 in 131 grants to 48 nonprofits in the county for basic human needs, arts and culture, recreation, and economic development.
It is affiliated with the Montana Community Foundation and has built a permanent endowment of approximately $140,000.
Grant decisions are made by local board members Kirk Sandquist, Steve Owens, Gerald Bender, Mary Ann Fraley, Claudia Dippold and Cheryl Sandquist.
