Dancing with her ancestors in her solo Irish dance dress
For little girls who have been learning to become Irish dancers the arrival of the solo dance dress is a dream. The dress costs thousands of dollars and is handmade, usually in Ireland.Â

Fifteen-year-old Ashton Barrett shows off her solo Irish dance dress as she and her little sister Brynn Elliott, 9, dance in their living room on March 8. For Irish dancers like Barrett who have been dancing since they were toddlers, the solo dress is significant. "I'd have to say it's a bit life changing because you learn dancing and you learn more about your heritage as you dance and it kind of feels like you are representing all of your relatives while you're dancing." Barrett is a member of the Tiernan Irish Dancers. She will be performing with others tonight at the annual Handing Down the Heritage event at the Butte Civic Center.
