From a news release:

It seems that Friday, March 1st, has been marked and circled on many calendars. That date marked the opening of registration for the annual Butte 50 and 100 mountain bike races. Race organizers anticipated a sell out of the 250 allotted registrations, they never thought registration would close by the time they went to lunch. The seventh annual race, taking place on Homestake Pass on the weekend of July 27, reached capacity in under four hours and the waiting lists have grown to 105 racers in 24 hours.

Gina Evans has been the race director since 2007. “Selling out so quick really encourages us to keep working hard growing in the right ways. We’re becoming the elite race in the western half of the country. That’s even impressive for me to hear.” Evans went on to say that all of the Triple Ring Productions organizers are surprised at the speed at which registration filled up, particularly the 100-mile race as it usually takes longer to fill because of the more grueling nature of the race.

As those still hopeful register for both race’s waiting lists, Gina is already excited about the names appearing on the registered list. “Tinker’s back. He elevates everybody’s riding.” Returning for his fourth year to defend his record-setting 100-mile victory in 2012 is David ‘Tinker’ Juarez (Team Sho Air/Cannondale). The former Olympian, mountain bike world champion, and hall of fame member, is the current course holder at a blazing time of 8 hrs 22 minutes. He stands to be chased by the most competitive field the race has seen.

“It’s been amazing to grow as we have. We’ve been fortunate to have an incredible organizing team, our sponsors are amazing, the Forest Service and BLM have been great to work with, and I certainly can’t forget our volunteers. They make the race happen.” The race is already starting to recruit volunteers for the “Neon Army.” Those interested are encouraged to head to www.butte100.com/volunteer to learn more and sign up for a mailing list.
