A 28-year-old Butte man was stabbed "multiple times" in a fight in front of the Dublin Irish Pub on South Montana Street early Thursday morning, according to a press release from Sheriff Ed Lester. The victim is in critical condition at St. James Healthcare.

Butte Police, Butte Fire Rescue and A-1 Ambulance responded to a call shortly after 2 a.m. and found the victim, treated him at the scene, and transported him to the hospital.

A suspect in the incident had fled on foot before police arrived, but witnesses provided a description. Police found and arrested the suspect, a 49-year-old Butte man, near the intersection of Silver and Idaho streets. He is in custody.

"The investigation ... is in the very early stages. Names ... are not being released," Lester wrote in the release. "There is no ongoing danger to the public."
