The Montana Department of Commerce has awarded a $20,000 grant to Butte-Silver Bow for engineering costs and feasibility assessments for more rocket testing at the Butte AeroTec facility.

The Montana Aerospace Development Association runs the facility, west of Butte, where advanced hybrid rocket technology and other aerospace science are tested in the industrial park.

Space Propulsion Group, an offshoot of Stanford University, and AeroTec's first client, is conducting rocket propulsion tests at the facility. SPG conducted its first tests in March, and is slated to conduct a second series in May.

In November 2007, the state provided a $25,000 grant from the Big Sky Economic Development Trust Fund to Headwaters RC&D Area Inc. to assist with the development of a preliminary engineering grant for the AeroTec facility.

The Butte Tax Increment Finance Industrial District will contribute additional funding.
