BOULDER — The Jefferson County Fair & Rodeo is Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 22-25, at the Jefferson County Recreation Park, one-half mile south of Boulder.
The fair and rodeo has again been dubbed “A Fair of the Heart”.
Admission to the fairgrounds is free, with a $2 parking fee per car. Also free is the live music, exhibits, in-county Wrangler Roundup, and kids activities.
The event kicks off Thursday, Aug. 22, with Fun Pianos, an interactive show featuring two pianos and lots of audience interaction. Tickets are available by calling 406-459-5951. Proceeds will go the Boulder Carousel to insulate the carousel building.
This year’s fair and rodeo are dedicated to the memory of long-time fair supporter, Mick McCauley, who passed away earlier this year.
According to fair organizers, McCauley was a devoted volunteer from its inception 36 years ago.
Rodeos and horse shows lure fans out to enjoy the weekend. Kids have their own horse show, parade down Boulder’s main street, and rodeo on Friday, Aug. 23. At 4 p.m., local cowboys and cowgirls compete in the Wrangler Roundup at events like team-penning and team-roping. There is no admission fee for Friday events.
On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 24-25, inflatable slides and other playground equipment and the Boulder River Carousel will keep kids entertained. Boulder’s rodeo parade starts at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Also on Saturday, a beef barbecue, sponsored by the Jefferson High School Music Department, is from 3 to 6 p.m. In addition, food vendors will be selling everything from hamburgers to snow cones. Starting at 5 p.m., the Jefferson County Rodeo Association puts on the Boulder NRA Rodeo.
Admission is just $8 for adults and $5 for kids. At 7:30 p.m., baked goods are auctioned in a contest with a real auctioneer. Starting at 8, the real barn dance with live music by the Insufficient Funds Band is a bargain with a $2 admission fee.
The 27th annual Boulder Area Chamber of Commerce Classic Car Show is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Veterans Park in Boulder. Over 80 classic cars will be on display and admission is free.
Anyone who is interested in participating by showing a classic car or any type of vintage car are welcome. Visit the Chamber website at Bouldermtchamber.org for more information or contact Stan Rensker at 406-225-4228.
Cars on display are judged by the show sponsors and the general public votes for the People’s Choice Award.
On Sunday, the Boulder Carousel sponsors a sausage, gravy, and eggs breakfast.
There will be a kids stick horse rodeo and kids treasure hunt. Toni Person will present a puppet show. Also, the rodeo kicks off again at 2 p.m.
