Cornish Cousins Xmas party Dec. 16
Butte Cornish Cousins will have their annual Christmas party at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Perkins.
It will be a social meeting followed by a brief business meeting. Dues can be paid for the 2018 year. Guest are welcome, and reservations are not necessary.
Uptown Toasters announce winners
This week's competition winners for the Uptown Toasters, Toastmaster Club #9765, include Matt Malin, best speaker; Jodi Peretti, best evaluator; and Debbie Sorenson and Nikole Evankovich, best table topics respondents.

Eureka Chapter plans luncheon
ANACONDA — Eureka Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, will meet at noon Monday, Dec. 11, for a Christmas potluck luncheon in the Masonic Temple in Anaconda.
Worthy Matron Robyn Wigger and Worthy Patron Carl Parish will preside. Meeting will start at 1 p.m.
Library offering kids knitting classes
The Loosely Knit Club is offering knitting classes for anyone 7 to 12 years old from Jan. 9 through Feb. 13, at the Butte Public Library, 226 W. Broadway (third floor). The classes will run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday.
All materials will be provided. Registration is required by calling 406-723-3361 or visiting the library's webpage.
Winners of Battle of the Books listed
Butte's elementary schools recently participated in the Battle of the Books, which was sponsored by the Butte Public Library.
The Emerson Lightning Bolts took first in the sixth-grade category. The team includes Clara Tamblyn (captain), Avrielle Boggess, Tasia Swan, Dacelyn LaFond, and Addison Endy.
Second- and third-place honors went to the Emerson Awesome Readers and the Emerson Buzzing Readers. Fourth place went to Margaret Leary's Perusich's Piranhas
The fifth-grade team that took home first was Butte Central's Razor Sharp Pizza Slices. The team includes Patrick Stimatz (captain), Maddison Rowe, Tanner Hook, Holley Smith, and Arrieonna Navarro.
Whittier School's Super Readers took second place, and third went to Hillcrest School's Bookie Monsters. Fourth place went to Butte Central's Book Monsters.
