An artist’s reception for Peggy Amtzis will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, during Butte’s Uptown Christmas Stroll, at the Butte-Silver Bow Art Foundation/Venus Rising Espresso House, 113 Hamilton. Her works will be exhibited through Dec. 26.
In addition, Kevin Neol Olson will be giving a piano performance.
Amtzis has been intrigued by Butte, and her art has captured Butte’s essence. A folk artist, she has spent her career in Montana. Growing up in a small farming community south of Billings, she found her way into the art world at a young age of 10. In the mid 1970’s, Amtzis attended Northwest Community College majoring in art, and in the 80's she and her husband move to Helena. During this time, she started a business known as Peg's Hand Painted Gifts that specialized in painting folk art on glass, furniture and trunks. In December of 2015, she and her husband Howie made their way to Butte and fell in love with Butte and its history.
A Butte native, Olson is not only a piano player, he also writes some very creative books. He will be playing a number of Christmas tunes during the stroll to bring in Butte’s Christmas festivities.
