The Butte-Silver Bow Fire Department is investigating two fires that burned on the Flat Sunday night and early Monday morning.

According to Fire Marshal Brian Doherty, at about 11:15 p.m. a garage fire was reported in the 3000 block of Kennedy Avenue. There weren’t visible flames, but there were a lot of heat and smoke at the back of the garage, Doherty said. Firefighters were able to put the blaze out quickly.

As the firefighters were heading back to the station around 1 a.m., they received another call about a small grass fire in an alley behind the 2300 block of Placer Street. The crew responded immediately and extinguished the flames.

Doherty said the causes of both fires are unknown.

“With the various suspicious fires in our community recently, we are keeping these two open to investigation and are looking for connections,” Doherty said.

As of Monday morning, there were no updates on the other two suspicious, Uptown garage fires handed over to the police department for investigation on Aug. 30, Sheriff Ed Lester said.
