Stolen vehicle, dangerous drugs
At approximately 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, an officer on routine patrol reportedly noticed two people sitting slumped in a vehicle near the vicinity of Gold and Dakota streets. Considering the situation suspicious, the officer ran the plates and found the vehicle was reported stolen out of Great Falls.
Upon returning to the vehicle, however, the officer found that its occupants were no longer at the scene.
Soon after, the officer reportedly stopped Brad Samuel Newbreast, 40, of Butte walking nearby. A search allegedly revealed Newbreast was in possession of the keys to the stolen vehicle.
After the owner of the vehicle was contacted and granted officers permission to search it, police allegedly found drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
Newbreast was subsequently charged with possession of stolen property, a felony, as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia, among other charges.
The second occupant of the allegedly stolen vehicle has not been identified, and the case was still under investigation Thursday.
