Get down from there!
A Butte man struck the curiosity of folks at Spud McGee’s bar on South Main Street late Thursday night by going into the restroom and not returning, police say.
When a few patrons checked it out, they found him up in the ceiling of the restroom and told him to come down. He wouldn’t, so they dragged him down, took him outside, sat him down, called police, and wouldn’t let him leave until they arrived.
When they did, William Lowrey Hesse, 52, told officers that someone owed him $500 and said he’d find the cash in the ceiling tiles of the men’s restroom at Spud's.
He was arrested for misdemeanor criminal mischief and taken to jail, where he remained as of late Friday morning with bond set at $185.
Wanted in Wyoming
Police stopped the driver of a 1990 GMC pickup for a suspected traffic violation on South Montana Street around noon Thursday and found all kinds of items in the truck bed.
They ran the plate and found the truck to be stolen out of Rock Springs, Wyoming, a city of 23,000 people in the southwestern part of the state. The driver, Zachary Rory Shay, 27, was from there, too.
But in talking with police down there, officers here determined that not only was the truck stolen from Rock Springs, so were tools, clothes, and IDs in the truck bed. Police also found syringes and a white powder believed to be methamphetamine.
Shay was booked on several complaints, including felony possession of stolen property, felony possession of dangerous drugs, having outstanding warrants — including one from Cascade County in Montana — and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was still behind bars late Friday morning with no bond set.
No payoff at Sparky's
Someone broke into the Sparky’s Garage restaurant on East Park Street in Uptown Butte early Thursday morning and tried to get into the safe.
The restaurant closed around midnight Wednesday, and when employees arrived after 8 a.m. Thursday, they found the door of the manager’s office kicked in and called police.
Officers say the burglar or burglars tried to get in through a main door and, when that didn’t work, busted out a basement window and got inside. They tried unsuccessfully to get into the safe and left some of their tools behind as well as unused syringes.
Police are still investigating but had no early suspects.
Running with Hurricane
Shey Leland Priest of Butte went to jail late Thursday afternoon for allegedly stealing two 25-ounce cans of Hurricane Malt Liquor from Walmart.
Priest, 27, ran from the store, but based on a description, police found him walking near Paxson Street and Warren Avenue. He gave police several different names — all wrong — before running, officers said.
Police chased him down and arrested him for resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, and shoplifting — all misdemeanors. No bond had been set as of late Friday morning.
Wanted for theft
Police stopped a Butte man riding an ATV with no plates near Eddy’s Motel early Friday morning and arrested him for an outstanding warrant.
They say Michael Wayne Cook, 30, was wanted for stealing items from a location on Virginia Street on Aug. 4. He was booked on the warrant and for complaints of misdemeanor theft, possessing drug paraphernalia, and not having a license plate.
