A female inmate died Saturday while she was being held at the Butte-Silver Bow Detention Center, according to Sheriff Ed Lester.
The woman was reportedly found in an unresponsive condition by detention staff at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday. Efforts to revive her were not successful.
Detectives from Butte-Silver Bow and the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating the death, according to a release from the sheriff's department.
Butte-Silver Bow Coroner Lee LeBreche has transported the woman’s remains to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula, where an autopsy will be completed.
The woman’s name is not being released pending notification of relatives.
