Butte-Silver Bow County has charged Shane Murphy, 25, of Butte with multiple felonies involving sex with a minor.

According to court documents, Murphy allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old female at the intersection of Oro Fino Gulch and Brown’s Gulch roads on two occasions in early March. Police booked Murphy on Tuesday, BSB Sheriff Ed Lester said.

Police said Murphy also allegedly tried to give or did give something “of value” to the victim on both occasions, both earlier this month.

Samm Cox, BSB county attorney, said that the alleged victim was not engaged in prostitution or sexual trafficking. He said the alleged incident took place outside. Cox said the victim's parents called the police.

Murphy is charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent and two counts of patronizing a victim of sexual servitude.

If Murphy is convicted, the charges of sexual intercourse without consent could carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. The other charges carry a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $75,000 fine.

Murphy is currently being held on $100,000 bond.
