A man caught by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in a sex sting last July pleaded guilty in Butte district court on Thursday to sexual abuse of children.
Steven Schlepp was arrested after leaving a note with his phone number in the Butte Plaza Mall’s men’s restroom soliciting sex. Police made contact pretending to be a 14-year-old boy, and Schlepp set up a meeting at the Butte Civic Center for sex, where he was arrested by police and had possession of a condom and latex gloves.
The 42-year-old was charged in Judge Kurt Krueger’s court with sexual abuse of children as well as sexual intercourse with a child without consent, although that charge was dropped Thursday as part of a plea deal Schlepp reached with the prosecution.
A psychosexual evaluation has been completed, and a sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled. Schlepp remains in the Butte jail.
