Southwest Montana Community Federal Credit Union, Butte branch

The Butte branch of Southwest Montana Community Federal Credit Union is pictured here at 1760 Harrison Ave. In October, the credit union purchased the former location of MacKenzie River Pizza, 1925 Elizabeth Warren Ave., where it hopes to relocate its Butte branch in 2019.

The former location of Butte’s MacKenzie River Pizza will soon be dishing out checking accounts and business loans instead of slices of pizza.

Southwest Montana Community Federal Credit Union purchased the building, 1925 Elizabeth Warren Ave., in October and is expected to move the bank’s Butte branch from its current location at 1760 Harrison Ave. to the new location sometime in 2019.

Tom Dedman, the credit union’s chief executive officer, said the new location will provide the branch with much-needed additional space.

“We’re just busting at the seams,” said Dedman by phone Monday, noting that the Butte office has gotten a bit crowded.

The branch’s current location has 2,500 square feet, but with the acquisition of the Mackenzie building, the branch will double its square footage and have more space for parking.

In addition, Dedman said, the Butte branch hopes to soon add a new loan officer and a member-service person to its staff, and there will be room for a three or four new employees in total. Currently the credit union boasts about 30 employees combined between its Butte and Anaconda branches.

Dedman said the bank will start renovations this summer, which will include a total revamp of the building’s interior, minor tweaks to the exterior and the installation of three drive-up lanes for bank services and ATM access.

The building is located on block east of Harrison Avenue on the Flat near residential areas and business, which made it an appealing location for the credit union, Dedman said.

“The mission of our credit union is to deliver professional services with a personal, hometown touch,” the CEO said in a news release. “We believe this new location is an example of that commitment, to be closer to the community we serve and provide ease of access to the services they need.”

MacKenzie River moved out of the building to the restaurant’s current location at 3450 Monroe Ave. in 2016. The move also coincided with a new name, MacKenzie River Pizza Grill and Pub, to represent an expanded menu and the addition of a bar.

Meanwhile, Administrator and Marketing Coordinator Nikki Hasley said Butte customers can expect access to all of the same services at the new location – “if not more,” she added.

With branches in Butte and Anaconda, Southwest Montana Community Federal Credit Union has served Deer Lodge and Silver Bow counties since 1941.
