Inside Driscoll Drug, Chad O'Connell is running Butte's only compounding pharmacy.
A compounding pharmacy transforms a pill from a solid state to liquid, so a patient can obtain the exact dose necessary. That is useful for infants, patients who can't swallow due to disabilities, and also those allergic to certain glutens or dyes used in solid pills.
O'Connell said a majority of his patients, however, are women whose doctors prescribe bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.
He said that for the past few years there has not been a compounding pharmacy in Butte, and patients had to travel to Missoula or Bozeman to get their medication.
"They're pretty excited about it," O'Connell said.
For information on the pharmacy, call 565-0800 or visit Driscoll Drug at 327 S. Excelsior.
