EPA Issues a Record of Decision Amendment for the Anaconda Smelter Superfund Site On June 12, 2020, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in consultation with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, issued the Record of Decision Amendment for the Anaconda Regional Water, Waste and Soils Operable Unit at the Anaconda Smelter Site in Anaconda, Montana. The amendment documents changes to the selected remedy specified in the original 1998 Record of Decision that described how cleanup of the site would be conducted. EPA has also released Explanations of Significant Differences to the remedies for the Old Works/East Anaconda Development Area Operable Unit and Community Soils Operable Unit.
