From now through July 18 at 11:59 p.m., (yes, we added another week for voting) the Standard asks the readers and fans to declare who they believe were the ‘Legends’ of Butte sports in the Mining City.

With the nomination process having passed and the readers’ choices gathered, the votes to see who the top legends are have been coming in and we hope for more.

So here is how the process will work:

1. Fans can vote for up to 10 athletes as the best in their opinion.

2. Fans can also leave comments on ‘why’ you believe them to be the best. Those comments could be used as voices of support on why these athletes ended up making the final, elite list.

3. You can vote only one time online or via email.

4. All voters will be eligible to win a $50 gift prize once the voting closes.

5. Additionally, whoever ‘refers’ the most people to vote on the ‘Legends’ will win a $75 gift card as well. So start telling your friends that this is their poll and this will be a series of stories created by the readers.

In order for this to be successful, voting must happen and in volume.

To cast your vote you can either email: or you can vote online at If you have any questions feel free to call 496-5517.

Below is the list of names either told via email, phone call, or just in friendly conversation over the past four weeks. These are the athletes listed and now eligible to be voted on as a potential ‘Legend’ of Butte athletics in the minds of the fans and readers.

If your comment was removed or isn't appearing online, perhaps:

  1. You called someone an idiot, a racist, a dope, a moron, etc. Please, no name-calling or profanity (or veiled profanity -- #$%^&*).
  2. You rambled, failed to stay on topic or exhibited troll-like behavior intended to hijack the discussion at hand.
  3. YOU SHOUTED YOUR COMMENT IN ALL CAPS. This is hard to read and annoys readers.
  4. You have issues with a business. Have a bad meal? Feel you were overcharged at the store? New car is a lemon? Contact the business directly with your customer service concerns.
  5. You included an e-mail address or phone number, pretended to be someone you aren't or offered a comment that makes no sense.
  6. You accused someone of a crime or assigned guilt or punishment to someone suspected of a crime.
