After a torrential downpour delayed the start of the second day of the 53rd annual East Helena NRA Rodeo on Saturday for about half an hour, Clancy cowgirl Drew Zipperian rained down her lasso on a calf in lightning-quick fashion.

Zipperian captured the ladies breakaway roping, in just 2.2 seconds.

"I have no words; that's my fastest run ever," Zipperian said, in awe of her own performance afterward.

Well, it also happens to be one of the fastest times in EH history, just missing the arena record by .3 second.

"It's definitely a confidence builder," said Zipperian, who will be a senior for the Montana State University rodeo club in the fall.

On Saturday, the Clancy standout was aboard Queen, a 13-year old she's been riding for 10 years. Zipperian said her collegiate highlight to date was qualifying for the MSU Rodeo's short round, "Which is a pretty cool feeling, with a packed (Brick Breeden) Fieldhouse."

Also leading the timed events for the second day of the rodeo were Jake Worthen (Menan) in the steer wrestling, at 5.7; ladies barrel racer Mandy Hamilton (Manhattan), twisted the cans in 17.62; Albert Koenig (Belgrade) in tie down roping, at 10.9; and team ropers Sid and Tanner Sorge (Shepherd), with a time of 10.9.

Barrel racer Tara Stimpsen of Lodge Grass, who won Friday's go-round with a 17.95, stands second overall.

In the rough stock events, Chase Redfield (Opheim) scored a 65 in bareback bronc riding, and Taylen Nelson (Jordan) led the saddle bronc with a 78 point ride. Nary a cowboy was able to cover the bulls.

Helena's Cavan Wrzesinski, an MSU Bobcat teammate of Zipperian, still leads the bareback with his 77-point ride on Friday.

Saturday's junior breakaway roping was garnered by Sam Peterson of Helena, in 2.5. He also won the kids steer riding. Maci DeHaan (Belgrade) claimed the junior barrels, with an 18.53.

Hanson wins all-around title at In-County

The Lewis and Clark In-County Rodeo took place on Thursday, as Kelsey Hanson garnered the all-around championship. Hanson did not win an event title, but she cashed in four events, to earn enough for the all-around.

The team penning event was captured by the Murphys -- Matt, Luke and Kaela -- catching three head in 54.41 seconds.

Michael Beattie and Justin Jones won the team roping in 9.1, while the breakaway roping was garnered Deb Loyd's 2.6.

The steer wrestling was claimed by Kane Cartwright in 6.5, and Jordyn Everson won the goat tying with a 9.0. Raelee Sampson captured the junior goats in 15.4.

Amber Chevalier earned the open barrel racing crown in 18.43 seconds, while the 2D barrels were garnered by Madison Warfield's 19.46. Ashley Randall won the 3D barrels with a 20.44.
