22 Butte wrestlers take titles at Smith/McCarthy tournament
Butte and the Butte Wrestling Club played host to the Smith/McCarthy Wrestling Tournament this past weekend, and local wrestlers shined among the more than 500 grapplers who competed.
The Butte Wrestling Club saw 22 wrestlers claim titles in their respective weight classes, including seven wrestlers who captured both Freestyle and Greco-Roman titles. Those seven wrestlers were: Keegan Hunt, Bridger Brancamp, Maverick McEwen, Keagan Gransbery, Colton McGinnis, Carl Anderson, and Jeff Queer.
Those seven, in addition to the 15 other Butte winners, helped the Butte Wrestling Club take both the Large Team Division titles in each style.
The event had over 300 entrants in the Freestyle division, and more than 200 in the Greco.

Butte Central to honor State Champion girls basketball team with banquet
A banquet honoring the 2016 State Class A Girls Basketball Champions will be held this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus. The event which will honor the players, coaches and managers of the Butte Central Lady Maroons, is open to all boosters and fans.
Former University of Montana coach Mick Delaney will be the keynote speaker. A video highlight tape of the season will also be shown. Those interested in attending are asked to make reservations by calling 723-6706 before Wednesday at 4 p.m. The cost of the banquet is $15 per person.
Saturday's Butte High tennis matches rescheduled for April 28
Due to the threat of inclement weather this weekend, Saturday's Butte High tennis matches against the Helena schools and Bozeman at Stodden and Father Sheehan Parks have been rescheduled for April 28.
A start time for the new date was not announced, but the matches will still take place at Stodden and Father Sheehan Parks.
Kingston/Lean duo leads Montana State Bowling Tournament
Following Week 3 of the Montana State Bowling Tournament, the Butte duo of Vern Kingston and Sean Lean have vaulted to the lead in the Doubles C Division.
Kingston/Lean, who were not among the leaders after Week 2, not sit atop their division with a 1,538 pin total, giving them a 39 pin lead over the Shelby duo of Dillon Doane and Blake McKitrick.
The event is taking place at Sleeping Giant Lanes in Helena.
