HELENA -- Kalispell Flathead and Butte High both went 3-0 at the Capital City Wrestling Duals Saturday in Helena.
The defending AA champion Braves defeated Missoula Big Sky 36-24, Helena High 60-18 and Capital 39-27 in the seven-team event held in Helena Capital's Bears’ Den gym.
Butte took the measure of host Capital 44-25, Bozeman JV 61-12 and Helena High 59-18.
“We had a really good day,” Bulldog coach Cory Johnson said. “I’m very impressed with how the guys came out after we got punched in the mouth last night by Flathead; we gave one back today.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do, but I’m excited about how hard the kids fought.”
Johnson singled out the individual performances of Will Queer at 113 pounds, heavyweight Jeff Queer, Kameron Marion at 182 and 170-pounder Koby Marino.
Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said he was “pretty happy” with the three wins.
“It’s a good start, and we have a good idea of all the little things we need to work on, but the guys are continuing to improve,” said Braves’ coach Jeff Thompson. “I really like this format here, because everyone gets to wrestle three matches, whereas in a tourney sometimes it’s two and out. This way you get to see your entire team, and a better perspective of where you’re at.”
Big Sky and Glacier were 2-1 in the Duals, Helena High went 1-2 and Capital and Bozeman JV were both 0-3.
