The Butte High boys swim team took seventh and the girls tied for 13th at the Great Falls Relays on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldog boys were led by a fourth-place showing in the 200 freestyle race from Jake Bentley, Kyle Komm, Trevor Komm and Zach Johnson. Matt Ingersoll replaced Trevor Komm to help the same Butte trio take fifth in the 400 free.
“The A relays placed in every single event, and the B relays placed above the A in the 200 breast,” Butte High coach Lynn Shrader said. “The boys swam really hard and the newer swimmers showed a lot of improvement in their strokes.
The Bulldog girls, who are heavy on freshmen and sophomores and were hit by injuries and illness to their top performers, were led by a pair of 12th-place showings in the 200 back and 200 fly.
“We still were close to placing -- a lot of 13th places,” Shrader said. “We are getting there, and swimming stronger. The girls are young … I think in a year or two we will be right in there.
“I am very proud of the way they competed today.”
Bozeman swept the team titles, with the girls edging C.M. Russell, 117-115, and the boys easily outpacing Great Falls, 92-74.5.
