Australia native’s career-high 21 points helps Diggers lock up fourth place

Montana Tech junior wing Danni Devenny continued her strong play with 17 points in the second half to lead the Orediggers past Rocky Mountain College 50-46 in Frontier Conference action at Kelvin Sampson Court on Thursday night.

With the win, Montana Tech (15-10, 8-5) clinched at least the fourth-place seed at the Frontier tournament that will take place Feb. 26-March 4. Tech now has three regular-season games remaining — Friday’s senior night home tilt against Dickinson State and then road games at Montana Western and first-place Westminster the following weekend. The Orediggers will honor their seniors prior to Friday’s tip-off.

Devenny finished with a career-high 21 points in the game, going 2 of 3 on 3-pointers and 9 of 11 from the free throw line. And the Orediggers needed it. Tech and Rocky shot just 25 percent and 22 percent from the field, respectively. The squads also combined to shoot just 7 for 33 on 3-pointers.

Devenny also added six rebounds and a pair of steals.

The ’Diggers completed the season sweep of Rocky Mountain (8-15, 5-8), after knocking off the Bears 66-56 in Billings in early January.

Brook Pokorny added nine points off the bench on 4 of 5 shooting for Tech, which suffered through a 5-for-30 shooting night from its other starters besides Devenny.

Tech was able to win by forcing 16 turnovers from the Bears with a suffocating defensive effort.

Seniors Shaye Murphy and Erika Jenkins added eight rebounds apiece for the Orediggers.

Brittany Myers and Kalli McCloskey had ten points apiece to lead the Bears.
