Despite falling behind early, Brianna King willed Montana Western to a 70-62 Frontier tournament win over Montana State-Northern Wednesday.

King led all scorers with 29 points on the strength of 50 percent shooting from the floor.

The Skylights jumped out to an 18-12 lead after one before Western battled back to trail 37-35 at the half.

The second-seeded Bulldogs hit their stride in the third, outscoring the Skylights 18-10 in the third before coasting to the win.

Peyton Filius had 15 points for Northern, and teammate Kealani Sagapolu nearly recorded a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

After King, Britt Cooper recorded 10 points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs.

The Western win undoes some heartache from last year’s Frontier tournament, where the Skylights bounced the Bulldogs in the semifinals, 44-42. Lewis-Clark State, this year’s No. 5 seed, went on to beat Northern for the conference crown.

Western is now 4-0 against the Skylights this season, and it also boasts the only regular season winning record over Carroll this year among Frontier Conference teams.

Rocky Mountain College, the tournament’s No. 3 seed and a 62-55 winner over Montana Tech in the quarterfinals Wednesday night, will travel to Dillon for the semifinals. That game tips off at 7 p.m. Friday.

Western won two of the three meetings this season, including a 64-57 win on January 20 at Straugh Gymnasium.
