Stephanie McDonagh’s 24 points helped Providence pull away from the cold-shooting Montana Tech women’s basketball team in the second half, 71-61, on Saturday night in Great Falls.
The Orediggers (11-5, 1-3 Frontier) entered halftime with a 42-32 lead, but shot just 18 percent from the field after the break.
The Argos (12-3, 3-1) outscored their visitors 19-7 in the third quarter to take control for good.
A 3-pointer from Sammy McGree pulled Tech within 59-56 with just over 5 minutes remaining, but the Orediggers could get no closer down the stretch.
McGree, a Butte High graduate, finished with 20 points for the Orediggers (11-5, 1-3 Frontier), including a 4-of-9 performance from behind the 3-point line.
Shay Potter was the only other Tech scorer to reach double figures with 12 points.
Tech next hosts Carroll College on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
