RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Montana women’s golf team shot a final-round 313 on Tuesday to finish the Battle at the Rock in 14th place. The 54-hole tournament took place at the Oak Quarry Golf Club.
Senior Hailey Hoagland shot rounds of 74, 76 and 77 to finish in a tie for 34th place as the Grizzlies opened their six-tournament spring season.
Montana opened with a 300 in Monday’s first round, then followed with a 318 in the afternoon.
Hoagland, the only Montana golfer with three scores in the 70s, was nine strokes better than any of her teammates at the tournament.
She didn’t have anything worse than a bogey in Monday’s two rounds. She had a pair of double-bogeys on Tuesday but still came in with a 5-over 77.
“I was really happy with Hailey,” UM coach said Kris Nord said. “She hung in there today. It wasn’t her best round, but she always manages to post a good score.”
Sophomore Teigan Avery finished second to Hoagland at Montana’s final fall tournament, and she opened the spring in the same position, firing rounds of 75, 84 and 77.
She birdied three straight holes on Tuesday to get to 2-under at one point.
Senior Kari Opatz (80-77-81) and junior Baylee Barckley (74-86-78) both tied for 67th, while freshman Faith D’Ortenzio (77-81-84) tied for 76th.
