KINSTON, N.C. (AP) -- Leody Taveras hit an RBI single in the seventh inning, leading the Down East Wood Ducks to a 4-2 win over the Carolina Mudcats on Wednesday.

Anthony Gose scored on the play to give the Wood Ducks a 3-2 lead after he led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.

The Wood Ducks tacked on another run in the eighth when Charles Leblanc hit an RBI single, driving in Alex Kowalczyk.

Both Down East starter Jonathan Hernandez and Carolina starter Trey Supak delivered strong pitching performances. Hernandez went six innings, allowing two runs and five hits. He also struck out 11 and walked one. Supak went six innings, allowing two runs and six hits. He also struck out eight and walked two.

Kaleb Fontenot (1-0) got the win with two innings of scoreless relief while Daniel Brown (1-3) took the loss in the Carolina League game. Jake Lemoine retired the side in order for his first save of the season.

For the Mudcats, Tucker Neuhaus homered and singled.

With the win, Down East improved to 6-2 against Carolina this season.
