Ray J. Dayton of Anaconda has filed for re-election seeking a third term as District Court judge in Montana’s Third District covering Anaconda-Deer Lodge, Granite and Powell counties.
Meanwhile, Shawn Frederickson made his bid for a seat on the Butte-Silver Bow Council of Commissioners official Tuesday, filing for the District 1 seat now held by Cindy Perdue-Dolan. She is seeking a second term and filed last Thursday.
Dayton said it has been an honor and privilege to serve as judge in the Third District for the past 11 years. He won a contested race for the seat in 2006 and was retained without opposition in 2012.
“With the consent of the electorate, it is my intention to utilize my 35 years of experience as a lawyer and judge to continue to provide firm, fair and prompt service to the citizens of the District and the State of Montana,” he said in a statement.
Four people so far have filed to replace District 2 Judge Brad Newman of Butte, who is not seeking a third term. They are Butte attorneys Brad Belke, Tim Dick, Wayne Harper, and Robert J. Whalen.
Kurt Krueger, the other District Court judge in Butte, is seeking a fourth term and so far is unopposed. The filing period runs through March 12.
