Symphony deserves much more support
Grace is a Montana Tech student whom I know well and David is an esteemed colleague of mine at Butte Central H.S. Last Saturday, during Butte Symphony’s marvelous concert, I was looking at their faces to see how the music was affecting them. While they performed, splendidly, one of the greatest of all Romantic era masterpieces Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, they appeared transported by it. It was a perfectly exquisite and inspiring moment.
By contrast to the quality of the experience, the attendance was very sparse, to me inexplicably.
I would like the Butte Symphony especially the volunteer musicians to know how much they are loved, appreciated and respected. What they bring to us in the course of the season is so meaningful and significant that it elevates us as a community.
As I am getting older, I get very excited about fewer and fewer things. As a priest, I get stirred deeply by the Gospel. I am highly motivated by the safety of children and our liberties. And more and more I get excited about beauty.
Butte Symphony members bring us the gift of much needed beauty. They clearly deserve much, much more support from us.
