It takes respect to give respect
President Trump is making a big controversy in regards to the NFL and standing during the national anthem. We must remember there is no law, no regulation that says an individual must stand during the national anthem. There are others who do not stand. Some Christian and non-Christian religions do not stand for the national anthem.
We must ask ourselves about respect and the flag. Where was the American flag when Americans slaughtered Native Americans by the thousands. Was this respect for the flag?
Where was the flag for 200 years when we had slavery? Did the flag show dignity or compassion?
Where was the flag when women could not vote and were second class citizens? Where was the respect?
Where was the flag when Afro-Americans were segregated and could not vote and were not classified as humans?
Where was the flag when war monger leaders sent young men and women to fight in unneeded wars so the rich could get richer?
Where does respect begin? It takes respect to give respect. Now we have a President who does not understand the word "respect," but wants others to have respect.
Wait, before you say anything! I stand at attention for the National Anthem. But I still have many thoughts about respect for humans and the flag!
