The man who died in an ice-climbing accident Sunday near Augusta has been identified as Dr. Elton J. Adams, 74, of Great Falls.
Adams was a physician in the rheumatology department at Benefis Health System, according to the organization's website.
Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said the avid climber fell about 90 feet while ice climbing with four other people at Cataract Falls, which is about 20 miles west of Augusta in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. The fall was reported at 1:12 p.m. and Adams was dead when responders arrived at 3:07 p.m.
Lewis and Clark County Coroner Bryan Backeberg said Adams died of blunt force injuries, and his death has been deemed accidental.
