BUTTE -- Big Sandy farmer Jon Tester today earned a powerful endorsement from one of Montana's largest organizations of firefighters.
The Montana State Firemen's Association today officially announced support for Tester in his campaign to serve a second term as U.S. Senator.
"Today's endorsement marks yet another striking difference between Jon's long record of support and respect for firefighters, and Congressman Dennis Rehberg's painful record of turning his back on them," said Tester campaign manager Preston Elliott. "Dennis Rehberg has a record of voting against health benefits and adequate resources for Montana's firefighters. He is clearly not on our side."
Over the past year, Rehberg voted twice against the James Zagroda 9/11 Health Act, a measure that provides health compensation to the firefighters and emergency responders who risked their lives at the World Trade Center following the September 11 attacks.
Rehberg also voted against firefighters' collective bargaining rights, and recently voted to gut funding for grants to provide much-needed equipment for firefighters.
"Dennis Rehberg has a long history of telling Montanans what they want to hear, but it will never make up for the fact that Dennis Rehberg's record tells an ugly truth," Elliot said. "Jon Tester, on the other hand, supports Montana's firefighters and emergency responders. He supports their bargaining rights. He supports resources for their safety and equipment. Jon understands that firefighters are heroes who risk their lives serving us."
