BUTTE --  Big Sandy farmer Jon Tester today earned a powerful endorsement from one of Montana's largest organizations of firefighters.

The Montana State Firemen's Association today officially announced support for Tester in his campaign to serve a second term as U.S. Senator.

"Today's endorsement marks yet another striking difference between Jon's long record of support and respect for firefighters, and Congressman Dennis Rehberg's painful record of turning his back on them," said Tester campaign manager Preston Elliott. "Dennis Rehberg has a record of voting against health benefits and adequate resources for Montana's firefighters. He is clearly not on our side."

Over the past year, Rehberg voted twice against the James Zagroda 9/11 Health Act, a measure that provides health compensation to the firefighters and emergency responders who risked their lives at the World Trade Center following the September 11 attacks.

Rehberg also voted against firefighters' collective bargaining rights, and recently voted to gut funding for grants to provide much-needed equipment for firefighters.

"Dennis Rehberg has a long history of telling Montanans what they want to hear, but it will never make up for the fact that Dennis Rehberg's record tells an ugly truth," Elliot said. "Jon Tester, on the other hand, supports Montana's firefighters and emergency responders. He supports their bargaining rights. He supports resources for their safety and equipment. Jon understands that firefighters are heroes who risk their lives serving us."

Simply put...Tester gets their support because he deserves it. Just like every firefighter deserves the respect of every American.

Like those firemen who climbed the stairs in the World Trade Center to their deaths, packing their gear. Like the union volunteers who cleaned up the mess and the bodies afterward. Like the union volunteers in the Caribbean, and the Phillipines following the earthquakes... like all the scholarships the unions sponsor every year. Like the California Nurses Association who provide volunteers for special health care needs, and spend a fortune each year to protect the public from insurance abuse. Like the pilot who landed the plane in the river. stop

@Dantes: Government gets "enlarged" due to many things, including an ever-increasing population; hence, more cops, firefighters, more societal needs in general. Society has also gotten more complex, and we now need agencies like the TSA and other anti-terrorist groups. As to constitutional heritage, I would suggest to you that the five conservatives who sit on our U.S. Supreme Court do not just interpret law, but make law--which is, as you know, very un-constitutional. Making law is the job of Congress, not the Supreme Court. Everytime the conservatives on the court do not like some enshrined law, they work to change the laws--even if they have been on the books for a 100 years or more. No, you have to see Republican/conservatives in the same light as you view Democrats/liberals: take off your rose-colored glasses and see politicians for what 99% of them are--people trying to protect their jobs, and trying to save their parties--regardless of whether or not it is good for our country.

@Dantes: What's the difference if Tester get donations from big labor unions, and the Republicans get donations from big corporations and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce? Answer: No difference!

Tester supports public unions working against the public interest, and in exchange gets a lot of money from big labor. No surprise there. Tester is as liberal as Obama and votes consistently to enlarge government at the expense of freedom and our constitutional heritage.
