James Cagney film highlighted
The Friends of the Hearst Free Library will screen "White Heat" starring James Cagney and Virginia Mayo at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at 401 Main St., Anaconda.
The 1949 drama is considered one of the best gangster movies ever made. The movie is free, as are the snacks. Details: 406-563-6932.
Volunteers needed to clean creeks
The Butte community cleanup of Blacktail and Silver Bow creeks will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at the Butte Chamber of Commerce and Father Sheehan Park.
Community volunteers are needed to help clean various areas of both creeks. Lunch is provided for all volunteers, and kids are welcome.
Pre-register at cfwep.org/volunteer, or just show up at one of the locations by 8:30 a.m. Please bring your own gloves, rakes, and waders. Trash bags will be provided.
Tech student wins scholarship
Luke McCulloch, a Montana Tech Metallurgical & Materials Engineering senior from Billings, has been honored with the Barry Feldman Memorial Scholarship from the Copper Club for the 2018-19 school year. The $10,000 scholarship is endowed in the memory of Barry Feldman, who was the global head of physical trading at Red Kite Capital Management before his death in 2014.
Established in 1994, the Copper Club makes contributions to causes and educational programs associated with the copper industry. The criterion for the scholarship is academic excellence and need of financial assistance. Nineteen Montana Tech students have won the award.
Symphony annual meeting May 22
The Butte Symphony Association has changed its annual meeting to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the Clark Chateau.

Music Sunday at Anaconda Elks
The John Fox Sound will be playing music from the Big Band era, along with swing, waltz, polka and Latin for dancing and listening pleasure from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at the Anaconda Elks.
