A police-assisted visit Wednesday afternoon by the state’s Probation and Parole Division to a residence on the 1000 block of Utah Street ultimately resulted in the pursuit and arrest of Michael W. Richotte, 28, of Butte, who faces numerous charges.

Police said that when authorities arrived at the residence around 4:50 p.m., a woman who answered the door said Richotte was not home. Police lingered in the neighborhood and said they later saw Richotte running from the residence.

A pursuit ensued, with police chasing the suspect on foot and by vehicle. Police said they apprehended Richotte on Nevada Street.

Police said they had seen Richotte discard a backpack as he fled. A search of the backpack turned up a loaded semi-automatic pistol, a white substance believed to be methamphetamine, and drug-related paraphernalia that included scales and baggies, police said.

Richotte’s status with Probation and Parole prohibited his possession of a firearm.

Richotte faces charges of felony unlawful possession of a firearm, felony possession of dangerous drugs with intent to sell, felony obstructing of a peace officer, violation of probation, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
