Butte firefighters and police responding around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday to the report of a vehicle fire found a compact car fully engulfed in flames in a parking lot near the Motel 6 at North Wyoming Street.
Fire Marshal Brian Doherty said the fire, which destroyed the small Mitsubishi vehicle that had been reported as stolen out of Missoula, is being investigated as arson. He said the car had been spray painted, changing its color from blue to black.
“It was spray painted pretty well, I might add,” Doherty said.
Police said the car had been listed as stolen on November 8.
Police officers assisting Tuesday afternoon in a Probation and Parole Division search of a residence in the 600 block of South Idaho Street ended up arresting a 31-year-old Butte man and a 33-year-old woman from Sheridan on drug charges.
Police said the 3:30 p.m. search turned up drug paraphernalia and pills that appeared to be a controlled substance.
Allyson R. Davis and Alex Montoya each face a felony charge of possession of dangerous drugs and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL
A 26-year-old Butte man faces a misdemeanor charge of aggravated DUI after he was allegedly found asleep in his vehicle Tuesday night in the drive-through lane of Taco John’s in the 1900 block of Harrison Avenue.
Police responded around 10:40 p.m. and administered field sobriety tests at the scene to Randy W. James after he appeared to be intoxicated. Police said he failed a roadside sobriety test and another sobriety test administered at the Butte jail. James subsequently blew twice the legal limit on a Breathalyzer, police said.
A resident of the 600 block of South Idaho Street in Butte arrived home early Wednesday to discover a woman he did not know asleep in his bed.
Stacked nearby were some of the man’s belongings, leading him and police to suspect the woman had been prepared to take them with her, police said.
Police responded around 2:30 a.m. and arrested Toni D. Eagle, 37, of Butte. She was charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a syringe, police said.
Police responded Tuesday night to the 800 block of South Colorado Street in Butte after a woman reported that her 13-year-old son had assaulted her and was out of control. Police said the woman had bruising on her arm. The teen, located by police a couple of blocks from home, was issued a notice to appear for partner or family member assault and transported to the juvenile detention center in Great Falls, police said.
