A Montana State Hospital patient pleaded not guilty Thursday in connection with seriously injuring a nurse last year.
Ross M. Robertson, 27, faces a felony count of aggravated assault for allegedly shoving a nurse to the floor in the hospital’s forensic unit on
Jan. 10, 2012. Robertson appeared in Butte District Court before District Judge Kurt Krueger.
Robertson was originally charged in Deer Lodge County, but the case was moved to Butte on the defendant’s request for a substitute judge.
Robertson was remanded back to the Montana State Prison after his arraignment Thursday. Robertson was represented by attorney Gregory Jackson.
Charging documents allege Robertson shoved a nurse hard following a disagreement over which color T-shirt he was required to wear as part of his designated level within the unit. The alleged victim fell over a chair and flew backward nearly 10 feet before hitting the floor, according to the report. The nurse temporarily lost consciousness and was diagnosed with serious closed head injuries.
Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Attorney Ben Krakowka is prosecuting the case.
