Margaret Ann ‘Peggy’ Vucurovich, 79

Mrs. Margaret Ann “Peggy” Vucurovich died Friday, March 9, 2012, at her residence.

Peggy was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Butte, the daughter of William and Margaret (McFadden) Janhunen.

Peggy was educated at Greeley Elem-entary School and Butte High School. She married George Vucurovich on Aug. 30, 1958. They relocated to San Francisco, Calif., where she was employed for many years by Bank of America.

After the death of her husband in 1975, she remained in San Francisco until returning to Butte in 1983. She was employed as a cashier for Buttrey’s Foods from 1983 until her retirement.

Active and athletic, Peggy excelled in speed skating in her youth. In 1948, along with the Butte High School Band and Twirlers, she participated in the Rose Festival Parade in Portland, Oregon. Never one to stay still, Peggy loved to spend time at the YMCA, exercising with her sister Patti’s adult exercise class, or swimming. She also enjoyed the quiet, creative, pleasure of painting or creating ceramics.

In addition to her husband, George, Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, William “Jinx” Janhunen and Dan Janhunen; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lazar and Milka Vucurovich; and her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Pete Vucurovich, Matt Vucurovich, Dora Jankovich, Vasie Mirich, Stella Kelly, and Angie Samardich.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Mike Mazzola, Joe and Laura Mazzola, and Matt and Yvonne Vucurovich; her daughters and son-in-law, Patti Creswell, and Jill and Bob Hatch; her grandchildren, Jonathan Mazzola, Jason (Catherine) Mazzola, Marissa (Taylor) Schmidt, Maggie Creswell, Nicholas (Angela) Hatch, Lacey (Josh) Goff, Tasha Hatch and her fiancé, Eric Smith, Mandy and Kristine Vucurovich; and her great-grandchildren, Kevin Hatch, Shelby Hatch, Olivia Goff, and Max Goff.

She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Ed Rademacher; brother and sisters-in-law, Gus and Janet Janhunen, Florence “Tootsie” Kovacich, Agnes Janhunen; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Ed Lash.

Friends are asked to join the family on Wednesday after 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with interment to follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
