They resided in Helmville until 1987 when the family moved back to Deer Lodge. The years spent in Helmville were some of the happiest of her life.

Shortly after relocating to Deer Lodge, her youngest son Michael, and Hal passed away. In order to support her family, Mary Anne continued her employment as a teacher. As a single mother she raised her children, continued to advance her education by receiving her master’s degree, and found ways to serve others. She taught until retirement in 2016. After retirement, Mary Anne enjoyed spending time visiting with the morning coffee group, following daily mass and serving others through meals on wheels.
