March 10, 1925-Aug. 18, 2017

Jean Williams, 92, of Missoula and formerly of Butte, America, passed onto eternal life on Friday, Aug. 18, 2017.

She was born, March 10, 1925 to William and Kate Sweeney in Butte. They raised seven children (Dan, Mary, Kevin, Helen, Bill, Jim). Jean was often referred to as the best athlete in the family, competing in basketball and tennis. She graduated from Girls Central and worked as a telephone operator.

Along came the butcher boy, the love of her life, Ralph Williams. They were married June 18, 1947, and together raised six children. Ralph's job transferred the family to Anaconda and Missoula, but Butte held a special place in their hearts.

Jean was a devoted wife and mother, always home to care for her family. She enjoyed swimming, bowling, tennis, golf, sewing and DIY projects. A highlight of summertime was to take the boat and a packed picnic to the lake. She hosted many family dinners, loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and spent many hours playing with them. "One day at a time, Lord Jesus" was a motto she lived by. She was very active in her church and enjoyed an amazing group of friends.

Her beloved, Ralph passed on June 4, 2009 after 62 years of marriage.

Jean is survived by her six children, Tom (Susan), Dan (Lorri), Jim (Beverly), Ann Marie (Stan) Peterson, Bob (Tanya), Steve (Siobhan); 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; her dear sister, Mary Watters; sisters-in-law, June and Jean Sweeney; as well as many dear nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 1475 Eaton Street in Missoula, followed by reception and the Rite of Committal at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
