Dec. 6, 1933-March 7, 2018
Birdie Ernestine Carpenter Mullaney, 84, was born in Walkerville, Montana, on Dec. 6, 1933. She was the 5th of 10 children born to Leighton (Buck) and Theresa Carpenter. She was a very proud Walkervillian, spending over 80 years planting her roots there. She also spent much of her childhood North of Walkerville at the family ranch in Hail Columbia Gulch.
Birdie passed away March 7, 2018 at the Copper Ridge Nursing Home peacefully in her sleep. She is now with her loving husband of 63 years, Jerry Mullaney.
Birdie attended Sherman School in Walkerville and graduated from Butte High School. As a young girl, she met Jerry Mullaney and “it was love at first sight”. Birdie and Jerry were married Jan. 16, 1954 and were blessed with four children, Dan, Terri, Joe, and Ginger. Birdie spent many hours making memories cooking with her family. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and was well known for her pasties, raviolis, rigatoni, gnocchi, blarney stones and rum cake. She was the clerk, recorder and treasurer of Walkerville for over 30 years. She was a proud member of a club, which consists of a group of friends that were referred to as “Club Ladies” for over 60 years. Many fond memories were made camping, hunting, fishing, cutting firewood and mushroom picking with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She did nothing with idle hands, whether it was cooking, sewing, gardening or just lending a helping hand. Whatever she did, it was done with love.
She is survived by her children: Dan, Terri Bennett, Joe (Diane), and Ginger (Bill) Kingston; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jody) D’Arcy, Brandi Bennett-Stajcar, Jeremy Bennett (Holli Lanes), Heidi Bennett, Lacie (Joe) DeMers, Jason, Tyler Mullaney, and Ashley, Kyler, and Jared Kingston; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marcella Dallaserra; brothers and sisters-in-law, Miles Carpenter (Ann Palmer), Dale (Roseann) Carpenter, Smiley (Betty) Carpenter; and sisters-in-law, Ruthie Carpenter, Jill Carpenter, and Wilene Mullaney.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry; son-in-law, John Bennett; and siblings and spouses, Tina (Lester) Else, John Carpenter, Cora (John Mike) Dennehy, Phyllis (Rudy) Petritz, Bob Carpenter, Jim Dallaserra, Rosie Carpenter, Kay (Justin) Millay, James Mullaney, and Tom (Lil) Mullaney.
Birdie’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Copper Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center for taking such excellent care of her.
