A discussion of federal nutrition guidelines for school breakfasts and lunches is planned at the trustee meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the Administration Building, 111 N. Montana St.
Julia Coyne, parent and registered dietician, said she will ask the board to explain its plan for implementing the new guidelines.
On March 12 Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that schools nationwide will receive $5.5 million in grants to support nutritional menus that include more whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean protein, low-fat dairy and less sodium and fat. The grants help schools meet the new standards.
Coyne previously worked at the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department as a Women, Infants and Children dietician.
Also on Tuesday’s agenda: trustees will vote on a plan between the district and the county for improving the Stodden Park softball fields for the Butte High girls’ softball teams.
