Butte Mile-Hi Lions members recently conducted vision screenings on 2,599 children in Anaconda and Butte — bringing the total screenings to 14,366 since 2012, according to a news release.

Because of conflicting circumstances with the original scheduled date for Deer Lodge, the screened has been temporally postponed.

The service club expects to surpass 17,000 children screened next year, said Ed Malesich, project chairman.

Records show 1,328 children were screened in 2012, 2,308 in 2013, 2,310 in 2014, 2,709 in 2015 and 3,112 in 2016.

Children screened this year in Anaconda were located at Head Start, Lincoln Elementary, Fred Moodry and Anaconda Junior Senior High. Children screened in Butte were located at AWARE, Head Start (Monroe and Lincoln), Hillcrest, Emerson, Margaret Leary, Kennedy, West, Butte High Webster Garfield, Whittier, East, and Emerson preschool. And finally children at daycare centers screened in Butte were: Small World and Creativity Factory.
