A 62-year-old man was stabbed to death early Sunday in Uptown and police are looking for a person of interest this homicide.

The victim is Robert Ray Bajzer who died from what appears to be at least one stab wound to the chest, police said.

Bajzer's body was found by a passing motorist at 12:13 a.m. on the sidewalk near 124-126 W. Park St.

Just after the stabbing, Butte police cordoned off the section of W. Park Street between Montana and S. Dakota streets. The victim's body was lying on the sidewalk just inside of a store front doorway just west of Insty-Prints Business Printing on the south side of W. Park Street.

A witness reported seeing a person fleeing the area, heading west toward Montana Street. The fleeing person, whom police consider a "person of interest" in this crime, was possibly wearing a dark-colored hooded jacket or sweatshirt.

Butte police Capt. Doug Conway said investigators are seeking information from anyone who may have seen this person in the area at the time of the stabbing. Butte police have no motive for the stabbing as of Sunday afternoon.

Butte Coroner Lee LaBreche said an autopsy was being done on the victim Sunday. He said Bajzer wasn't originally from Butte, but was recently living in Butte.

Conway said Bajzer had been seen drinking at area bars throughout Saturday, beginning around noon. Anyone who encountered the victim during that time is asked to contact police to provide any information that may be helpful to the investigation.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call police at (406) 497-1120, detective Sgt. Butch Harrington at 497-1170, detective Lt. Ed Lester at 497-1171 or Conway at 497-1123.

Those with information on the identity of the person of interest may also contact Crimestoppers at 782-7336. Crimestoppers callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
